How Does GoBoating Plan to Protect the Marine Ecosystems of Spain's Coasts?
SUSTAINABLE SPORT FISHING
At GoBoating, all of our charters are conducted with an eco-conscious approach to minimize the impact on the marine ecosystems along the Spanish coast.
Our captains are instructed to practice catch-and-release for all species inhabiting the Mediterranean coast.
In certain exceptional cases, and at the client’s request, some species may be caught and brought to port for personal consumption. This must be pre-approved by the captain and GoBoating’s management before the fishing trip.
The Reality of Sport Fishing
At GoBoating, both the fishing equipment and the bait used are selected to prioritize the reduction of our carbon footprint. We operate low-emission boats and use non-invasive “barbless” hooks (whenever possible), which cause minimal harm unless they accidentally hook the fish deeply or in areas where bleeding is significant. In such cases, we typically keep the fish for consumption. There’s nothing wrong with this as long as we adhere to regulations, although most of us prefer to see the fish swim back.
We have studied fish conservation extensively and can assure you that if the fish are treated well after being caught, the survival rate is high—around 96% for the fish we catch. It’s usually easy to identify which fish won’t survive, and we ensure they are quickly and ethically killed to either be kept as food for clients or fed to animals.
Some species are more sensitive than others, but as long as we are doing our best to maintain the health of the ecosystem and take care of our catch, there is no reason to feel ashamed. We believe that catch-and-release is more ethical than keeping what we catch, and keeping what we catch ourselves is far more ethical than eating fish caught by industrial boats.
At GoBoating, we are dedicated to providing unforgettable fishing experiences while preserving the natural beauty and health of our oceans for future generations.
